Orchid specialises in producing Works Operating and Training Manuals to the potable and wastewater industry. The Works Operating Manuals (WOMs) are a crucial component to the final handover of all plants. The manuals are produced to the agreed specification required by each individual water company.  The approved WOM can then used as a base to provide a plant Training Manual.

Works Operating Manuals (WOMs)

Orchid have provided Works Operating Manuals (WOMs) for all different types of plant both in size and complexity. The WOM can be structured to suit a specific site requirement but typical the WOM is based on a ten part structure:

  • Part 1 Introduction
  • Part 2 Safety
  • Part 3 Incident Procedures
  • Part 4 Overview of Works
  • Part 5 Process Description
  • Part 6 Operation of Plant Equipment
  • Part 7 Maintenance of Plant Equipment
  • Part 8 Suppliers Manufacturer’s Literature
  • Part 9 Commissioning Data
  • Part 10 As Built Drawings

Parts 1 to 10 are usually contained in one volume with the majority of Parts 7, 8, 9 and 10 referenced out to the required number of additional volumes. This can be many volumes as Parts 8, 9 and 10 can be of a considerable size.

This is a good reason to consider going ‘GREEN’ by using an Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) saving on paper and storage space. The IETM allows only the required information to be viewed and only printed out as and when required.

Training Manuals

On completion and acceptance, of the WOM it can be used as a base to prepare the plant Training Manual.

  • Simple, structured, PDF files on a CD
  • Self-loading or a pre-installed Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM).

Water Computer Based Training

Computer Based Training (CBT) has real benefits for the training of water industry staff, as the training can take place in the working environment and can be undertaken by individuals when they have time or during allocated time slots. CBT is particularly suited to the familiarisation of new staff with company procedures/systems. CBT can be modular in design and developed to run on industry standard multimedia computers.

With careful planning and document design it is possible to utilise material generated for works operating manuals into the preparation of the associated CBT modules. This can make the overall project more cost effective and efficient. The shared information can be supplemented in the CBT with the addition of video, animations, sound clips and exercises.
