Computer Based Training (CBT)

Computer Based Training that is written and produced by Orchid, will help you to communicate your training objectives and material in a clear, concise and engaging manner. Your trainees can learn interactively, at their own pace and in any location that has access to the Learning Management System. Results and progress can be tracked and
reviewed.

Computer Based Training (CBT) is an e-learning tool that allows your trainees to access training, without the need for scheduled classroom training sessions and at a time that fits in to their schedule.

CBT can be delivered over an office Intranet or, if required, over the Internet to remote trainees.

A Learning Management System (LMS) can be configured to track trainee progress, for example, it can provide a report indicating when trainees have started and completed training modules and it can also record the scores that trainees have achieved in any assessments that are set.

The CBT System can be designed and built around your own particular training requirements.

CBT Module Authoring and Assets

Orchid’s wealth of industry and communications experience allows our authors to write and develop CBT modules that deliver the content in an interactive and engaging manner. If you have existing training material, this can be assessed and adapted for a CBT learning environment.

The CBT Modules are composed from a variety of ‘assets’, designed to communicate the subject to the trainee. Assets can include:

• Text
• Graphics – diagrams, photographs, screen shots etc.
• Sounds – voiceover, effects etc.
• Video
• Animation – software simulation etc.

Some assets are more costly to produce, such as professionally shot video, whereas other assets, such as photographs and drawings, can often be sourced from existing training materials and utilised cost effectively.  This approach allows CBT to be developed to a budget.

Interactive Elements

CBT Modules become more appealing for the trainee if they contain elements that are interactive. The interactive elements can include tests and puzzles, whether designed to allow the trainee to check their progress or as part of a formal final assessment where the results would be recorded in the LMS.

Learning Management System / SCORM Compliance

Orchid can provide a Learning Management System (LMS) to host the CBT Modules. The LMS also handles the trainee login process and contains the database that stores trainee progress and results.

Orchid can develop CBT Modules that are SCORM compliant.  This allows the CBT Modules to be ‘plugged in’ to any SCORM compliant Learning Management System, including our own hosted LMS or SCORM Cloud.
