Learning Management Systems
A Learning Management System (LMS) is the system that manages the distribution of Computer Based Training (CBT), or e-Learning, Modules to the trainees. Typically, Modules are loaded in to the LMS and then allocated to the relevant trainees. The trainees log in to the LMS, usually over the Internet, in order to complete the e-Learning Training Modules that they have been enrolled on.
The LMS can usually be configured to track trainee progress, typically providing the following:
- A report indicating when trainees have started and completed CBT Training Modules.
- A record of the scores that trainees have achieved in any completed assessments.
Orchid have designed and built bespoke LMS applications but also specialise in working with a number of SCORM Compliant Industry Standard LMS systems.
Typically we install a Moodle LMS. Moodle (moodle.org) is a popular open source e-Learning platform used by thousands of institutions around the globe. Moodle has the capability to store and distribute SCORM compliant CBT modules, produced by Orchid or elsewhere, and track progress and results. To a degree, Moodle can also customised, enhanced with plugins and branded with custom themes, in order to provide a branded learning environment.
Orchid’s Internet hosting facilities (orchidserve.uk) allows us to provide a hosted LMS solution, such as Moodle. This takes away the worry of delivering your training to your trainees.
