For several overseas clients Orchid have produced a manual type that successfully combines an Operating Procedures Manual with a Training Manual. This contains in a single document all of the information that plant operators need in order to become familiar with and operate system / plant.
The manual breaks the plant down into systems and for each system provides information under the following main headings:
Identifies the limits of the system, major items of equipment, system purpose, system hazards, objectives of the manual section. Supported by a simplified drawing of the system.
Provides a general overview of the system and the purpose of the equipment in it. Supported by the simplified drawing and, where necessary, by other drawings, eg vessel/equipment cross-sections, skid layouts.
Equipment location plans with system equipment highlighted. Supported by tables of major equipment parameters.
OPERATING PRINCIPLES AND PROCEDURES
Describes how the system / equipment works and is operated. Supported by P&IDs/SLDs. Contains the detailed step by step operating instructions with valve position tables for various operating conditions.
Tabulated operating, alarm, trip and PSV settings.
SYSTEM MONITORING AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
Fault and statements, based on the C&E/SAFE Charts.
Contains any special operating instructions/procedures not covered in Operating Principles and Procedures, eg tower packing replacement, equipment changeover.
How the subject system relates to other systems.
Tabulated equipment specifications.
