The Requirement
Princes Food operate one of the largest canning plants in the UK with production lines for baked beans, tinned peas, meat products, fruit products etc.
Princes needed to establish a common set of Operating Practices in order to improve the efficiency of each production line shift and to retain essential knowledge.
The Project
Orchid reviewed and produced new canning line Operating Manuals for two of the most critical production lines in the factory. One line, Line 8, was the most critical line and produced up to 800 cans of baked bean every minute. The efficient operation of this line was therefore critical to production and quality targets being met.
The project involved regular visits to the factory in order to document the equipment and processes in the productions line. One important aspect was to liaise and spent time with the experienced Operators were associated with higher than average line efficiency rates so that their skill and experience could be captured for others to benefit from.
