Over recent years Orchid have completed a number of successful projects for Faun Trackway, providing technical authoring and illustrating services in the preparation of operating manuals, maintenance manual and illustrated parts catalogues for military equipment.
Having seen Orchid’s 3D modelling capabilities within the manuals, Faun approached Orchid to assist with a more conventional 3D rendered animation and presentation. This presentation was to be displayed on a large screen at the Defence & Security Equipment International 2019 Exhibition, held at ExCeL, London.
Orchid were given the brief that the animation had to be able to loop continually, be under 2 minutes long and show case Faun’s key products in a modern and engaging presentation. This was to be displayed at 1080p on a 2.5 x 1.5m screen. To display the products, Faun wanted to utilise existing animated sequences from their Computer Based Training (CBT) courses.
This presented Orchid with several challenges. The CBT sequences had an existing background and content that needed to be removed, in addition they were scaled at half the size required for the exhibition display. Using a variety of techniques, Orchid were able to extract the CBT animations, remove unwanted content, scale them to the correct size, clean them and re-render the sequences.
Once this was completed, Orchid produced an animated presentation interface to display all of the CBT sequences that reflected Faun’s existing marketing but was also fresh and engaging for the viewer.
Speaking about the delivery of this project, Keith Glanville, Managing Director of Orchid said; “This particular project had a number of challenges to it, but utilising the skills of Orchid’s animators and software, we were able to overcome these and deliver a presentation we are proud of. I would say to other clients who may have similar existing animated material, that there is an opportunity to re-use that material and present it again in different, exciting way.”
