DITA
DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture) is an XML-based solution for structuring, producing, and delivering technical information.
DITA is a “topic-orientated” rather than a “document-orientated” solution. These topics can be re-used to produce content required for a range of different audiences, purposes and output types.
This approach enables users to organize content into well-defined “chunks” of information; each the subject topic can be about a single procedure, concept or reference.
By organizing content this way, it is also easier to re-use content for different outputs, each produced and customize to suit the needs of different users and output types. The topic-orientated also allows writers to focus on specific tasks, concepts, etc.
Another advantage of DITA is that the formatting of content is defined separately from the content itself: it is specified and maintained in separate files. This enables writers to focus on writing content instead of formatting the content and guarantees that the formatting of the output will be consistent, even when there are multiple authors involved.
